2nd Post

     Well, it has taken me almost another year to write my next blog post. I definitely did not achieve the goal I set to write every week. Well, I will start writing now and how ever much I get to writing in the future. I think it is important for me to continue writing. Writing helps think and form ideas and it will help me think more carefully and form my mind and who I believe I am in life. So I will continue to write.

    I feel I want to grow up to become a good man. At least, this is what I think I want to become right now, from the amount of thinking I have done so far. I guess I should define what I think a good man is. A good man is a man that possesses certain virtuous qualities and lives by some sort of moral law that I believe should be attainable through reason. One quality of a good man is integrity and honesty. A good man who dedicates his life to the pursuit of the good and the true should live a life in real life that is true and honest. I have fallen short of this. A second quality I believe a good man should possess is courage. A good man must be courageous and have the ability to overcome fear in pursuit of the good. Fear of harm, death, or persecution should not prevent a man from doing what is just and good. I have fallen short of this. A third quality I believe a good man should possess is strength. A good man should be able to overcome physical and mental discomfort and pain to do what is good. Whether this applies to a more serious matter or just overcoming daily discomforts, such as waking up every morning at a good time, a good man should be able to control his lower base desires of pleasure and satisfaction to pursue what is good. I have fallen short of this. I believe there are many more important qualities a good man should have not listed here. I want to become a good man. I mentioned at the beginning of this paragraph that a good man lives by some sort of moral law that I believe is attainable through reason. Because of this, I also think it is very important for a good man to reason and think carefully about what he does in life. If I want to become a good man and live a life in pursuit of the higher moral laws a good man must live by, I must have the capacity to know or discover what these higher moral laws are. Thus, it is very important for me to think about what I believe and to think a lot. And in doing so, I will come closer to becoming a better man, a good man. Thus, I choose to write, because writing is a very effective way of thinking. It allows you to establish thoughts, organize those thoughts, construct a map from your thoughts to some conclusion, and analyze that mental map for flaws that must be corrected. Writing, in short, I believe is an effective way of refining ones ideas and beliefs so that they become closer to the good and the true that I believe is discoverable through reason. In order to be a good man, I must think. A good way to think effectively is to write.

The Beginning

It is the night of Saturday, February 3rd 2024. I am at the moment sitting at a table watching over a room with sleeping homeless men and women as I work my shift at a shelter. In this quiet night, with just the silent snores and grumbles of the unconscious, I find time to write, write my first entry into this personal blog, a blog which only I will probably ever read. I have been planning to start writing seriously for several years, but I have only just now begun my first entry. I am a young writer. Filled with the excitement and spirit of adventure characteristic of my age, I begin this journey with optimism for what I could potentially achieve and what type of writer I will eventually become at the end of this long journey called life. Will I end up writing frightening horror, exciting sci-fi/fantasy, or heart wrenching romance? Pursuing Truth or Judging?

    I was reading something on the internet and one person asked a professed Christian who was a homosexual how homosexuality was not antithetical to the Christian faith. This is a paraphrase but the individual asking the question said something like this: "I am asking this question in no bad faith. I am genuinely curious. How can one come to the conclusion that homosexuality is not sinful?" Another person on the internet replied to this questioner something along the lines of, "I am asking this question in no bad faith. I am genuinely curious. I found that I fall short of Christian ideals so much that I am too focused on fixing myself and rarely have time to gaze outwardly and question the morality of the actions of others.
